Studying abroad in melbourne?

I'm planning on studying abroad somewhere for Spring of 2012, and I'm trying to decide if Melbourne, Australia would give me the same experience as somewhere in Europe. There's not a lot of good locations to choose from in Europe (my school offers Manchester, Copenhagen, Madrid, etc.) and I have always wanted to go to Australia. Would spending five months in Australia be a good decision?
